FEMA: Hazard Mitigation Grant Initiatives for IDA

FEMA has recently provided information to NJOEM indicating that there have been NFIP claims in your areas from the remnants of tropical storm IDA. If you wish to submit a grant application for your community and have homeowners expressing interest in acquisitions or elevations of Repetitive Loss (RL) or Severe Repetitive Loss (SRL) structures, there are grants available for assistance.

Somerset County OEM was provided a list of target structures in the following communities that are SRL\RL and affected by Ida: Bedminster, Belle Mead (Montgomery), Bound Brook, Branchburg, Bridgewater, Green Brook, Hillsborough, Manville, North Plainfield, Somerville, and South Bound Brook.

FEMA is focused on acquiring or elevating NFIP Insured Repetitive Loss or Severe Repetitive Loss structures affected by IDA in your communities and may be able to expedite reviews under FMA in the near future if you are able to provide information to produce an application expeditiously.

Projects funded under the FMA program are limited to activities that reduce flood damages to properties insured under the NFIP. The recommended timeline for submitting applications is by mid-November in order to be eligible to be placed in the 3-4 upcoming grants coming available.

Homeowners substantially damaged by hurricane Ida must have an active NFIP flood insurance policy in effect to participate in this FMA grant program.
