An update to the decision-making process regarding whether to open Manville’s municipal pools for the 2020 summer season.
Governor Murphy released Executive Order No. 153 on Monday, June 8, 2020, allowing for municipal pools to re-open as of June 22, 2020. On Wednesday, June 10th, the New Jersey Department of Health released a seven-page document with guidelines, protocols, and procedures for municipalities who decide to open their pools. You can see that document here:
New Jersey COVID-19 Outdoor Pool Standards
The guidelines affect nearly every aspect of opening our municipal pools: from staffing to attendance, from sanitation protocols to signage. There is much to consider and much to plan.
Since the release of these guidelines on Wednesday, active discussions have been underway to make the best possible determination for the Borough’s summer pool season. The Mayor and Council have been discussing the feasibility of safely and effectively administering these protocols with our DPW, the OEM, our Borough Administrator, the Board of Health, and our Recreation Department. We are determined to leave no stone unturned and no possible course of action unexplored. The Mayor and Council take very seriously the consequences to public health of these decisions, but are also determined to, where possible, render services to our residents in as safe and effective a way as possible.
We want to thank the public for your patience as we consider this issue carefully, and we look forward to announcing a decision in the next two weeks.
